GKN Weekly Update 8/8/11

And good morning on this slightly cooler August day! I’m  taking a half-day today since I just realized I’ve worked seven days in a row and need a break. I narrated over 175 pages of BSG last week and edited about 100 of those pages. I’m a bit burnt out!

Like I said, the bulk of last week was all about narrating and editing “The Science of Battlestar Galactica”. BTW a huge thank you to co-author Kevin Grazier for helping me with the pronunciations and equations. Kevin also works for NASA and is currently the science adviser for the TV shows “Eureka” and the next BSG series “Blood and Chrome”. Thanks, Kevin!

TIP OF THE WEEK: I’ve learned a lot narrating this particular book. First of all, nothing beats good writing! It’s well-phrased, easy to digest considering the density of the technical stuff, and it’s funny! I’m really enjoying that because I get to inject some personality into the narration to keep it fresh & interesting (not that it needs my help).

I’ve also learned how to better phrase tables, lists, and equations so they are easy to listen to & understand.  The really fun part about this book is that it’s a fascinating combination of audio book (both fiction and non-fiction) and medical narration and has required the three separate techniques to get the job done. This is why you have to do you homework! Read ahead as soon as you can and understand the thrust of each chapter so you can both effectively and eloquently get the author’s message across.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Let others lead small lives, but not you. Jim Rohn

STUFF!: I saw “Harry Potter” last week and it was good. It wasn’t the best Harry Potter film made nor did come from the best book in the series (I’m a Goblet of Fire” fan) but it was well-made and ended the series rather nicely.
