And a belated Happy Rosh Hashanah to you! I wish everyone good health and happiness in the New Year. Does anyone make New Year’s Resolutions on Rosh Hashanah? That would give you two chances to quit smoking, you know…
Like many of my fellow Faffers, the past week has given me time to reflect on the wonderful experience that was FaffCon 3 and try to determine how to best apply the overwhelming amount of wisdom I collected. I finally organized my notes and entered all of the action-able items into my Action Plan. Add that to the stuff that was already on the Plan and it totaled almost ONE HUNDRED items! Obviously too much to do in one month, or is it? Nah. I’m not THAT much of a masochist.
So, what to work on first? My gut says branding, at least for me. So here’s the big question: what is my brand? What do I want my clients to think of me when I’m not around? Doug Turkel, for example, has branded himself as the “Un-nouncer” and it works brilliantly for him. Bob Souer has branded himself as a “professional storyteller” and “the second-nicest guy in voiceover”. Also brilliant. I do have some ideas and I will share them with you soon!
TIP OF THE WEEK: Have you figured out what to work on first? I guess it depends on who you are, where you are in your VO career, and what you feel is your biggest opportunity for growth. All things being equal, I would suggest this order:
Branding: who am I and what is my place in the industry? What is my message?
Cash Flow: do I have the finances to send the message effectively and consistently?
Technique: Does my instrument reflect that message?
Tools: do I have what I need to convey my message effectively?
Marketing: how am I getting that message out and to whom?
Health: am I physically, mentally, and emotionally/spiritually strong enough to deliver my message?
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: People begin to become successful the minute they decide to be. Harvey Mackay
STUFF!: Continuing my “check out these awesome bands I love!” series, this week I give you Minus the Bear. Enjoy!
