Voiceovers And Good Humans – The Not Silent Blog 5/17/16

I love good humans.

My dear friend Megan Tusing uses the term “good human” in a very particular way that I have come to appreciate. According to Megan…

If you are a good human, you are kind. You are compassionate. You listen. You care. You don’t judge. You give good hugs. You want to connect with others because you want to know their story, not because you want something for your personal gain. You are a true friend. You are positive. You are there when it matters. You make people laugh. You are real, genuine, true.

I had the genuine pleasure of spending time with many, many, many good humans last week. I ventured to Chicago for The Audio Publishers Association Conference (APAC for short), The Audie Awards (like the Oscars for audio books but with less speeches & commercial breaks), and The Johnny Heller 2nd Annual Splendiferous Narrator Workshop (JWASH for short, an acronym I just made up).

Before I list all the good humans with whom I cavorted last week, I need to thank good human John Florian for allowing me to represent Voice Over Xtra yet again.

Thank you, good human Pam Tierney for organizing a fabulous FaffCon alumni dinner at Howells & Hood.

That’s me and the lovely Pam.

Thank you good human Johnny Heller for organizing JWASH and letting me report on it for Edge Studio.

Thank you good human  Teri Schnaubelt for organizing the APAC After-Party Shenanigans at Flo & Santos. That’s me with good humans Megan Tusing, Erin Mallon, and Faith Cruz Coons. Faith is a particularly good human because she gave me a ride home twice AND brought me coconut water as a surprise. That’s good human-ship right there.

Thank you to the good humans at APA for presenting a swank-tastic Audie Awards show. If you’re wondering why that lady in the picture with me looks like Paula Poundstone, that’s because it’s Paula Poundstone. She hosted the Audies and was a very, very funny good human.

And finally, thank you good human Jeff Kafer et al for the 3rd Annual Naudies, the consolation party for everyone who didn’t get nominated for an Audie. BTW that lady doing the Uncle Sam impression is Sadie Alexandru who got nominated for her first Audie on her first audio book! Crazy, right?

TIP OF THE WEEK

All of the above good humans made that incredible week about attendees & friends, not themselves. They celebrated not only the audio book industry, but each other and it was enlightening, inspiring, just plain fun. My advice to you is simple: be a good human!
