Voiceovers And Happiness – The Not Silent Blog 11/22/16

I just narrated my 50th audio book. Yay!

2016-11-16-12-52-19

That’s me making a 5-0 gesture. get it?

Anyway, the book is called The Five Thieves of Happiness by John B. Izzo. It will go on sale January 2nd and I’m pretty excited about it. Not necessarily because I got to narrate it (which I did) and that it’s my 50th (which it is) but because of what I learned. To give you an idea of what the book is about, here’s the Amazon blurb:

“Happiness is our natural state, for each of us and for humanity as a whole, argues John Izzo. But that happiness is being stolen by insidious mental patterns that he depicts as thieves: the thief of control, the thief of conceit, the thief of coveting, the thief of consumption, and the thief of comfort. He discovered these thieves as he sought the true source of happiness during a year-long sabbatical, walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain and living in the Andes of Peru. This thoughtful and inspiring book describes the disguises these thieves wear, the tools they use to break into our hearts, and how to lock them out once and for all. Izzo shows how these same thieves of personal happiness are destroying society as well. This book will help us all discover, develop, and defend the happiness that is our true nature while creating a world we all want to live in.”

Far out.

TIP OF THE WEEK

This book put a lot of things into perspective, both professionally and personally. My biggest takeaway was that happiness is a choice. It’s actually a choice. Did you know that? I sure didn’t.

Like most people, I always thought that happiness was external; a reward for getting what you want, or at least what you think you want. Cars, spouses, houses, children; they don’t necessarily make you happy. If that were true, then wouldn’t all married folk with material success be happy and all poor, unmarried people be miserable? Clearly that is not the case. Happiness is internal. YOU make you happy.

How can you apply that to your voiceover career?

Enjoy the journey. Enjoy the process. Enjoy the failures along the way and the wisdom you acquire from them. Goals are essential to your career, but don’t dupe yourself into thinking that you will only be happy when you achieve them. Be happy now!

NEWS AND NOTES

I usually announce my Edge Studio “Business and Money 201” webinars the week they happen. Being that the next one is the last one of the year and, as far as I’m concerned the most important one of the year, I’m mentioning it earlier. My next webinar is “Setting Goals for 2017”. We’re going to talk about how to set you up for success in the New Year. Click here to sign up!
