So…it’s THAT time of year again.
Frozen turkey buying and silver-polishing and pre-pre-pre-Christmas shopping and all that other stuff. Now, I’m sure that at least one person (or after-school special) sternly reminds you to be thankful this time of year and I’m sure you are. Unfortunately, the person who delivers said reminder is your Aunt Selma who’s sub-textually telling to you to call & thank her for the five dollar check she sends you on your birthday.
What does it really mean to be thankful?
I looked it up!
Here are two definitions: “pleased and relieved” and “expressing gratitude and relief“. Interesting that relieved/relief is in there, huh?
Relieved, “no longer feeling distressed or anxious; reasurred“. I sure like the sound of that, don’t you? Doesn’t it seem like the stress and labor of Thanksgiving make you feel the opposite of relieved?
Maybe we’re supposed to be thankful after all the hard work is done so we can truly appreciate it. I think that sounds about right. Let’s try it out…
TIP OF THE WEEK
Be thankful for your family, friends, and health. These are all things that require effort to maintain so that makes sense.
Be thankful for your career and whatever level of success you have achieved. This, by the way, is the perfect time of year to reflect on your career. Appreciate what you did right and think about what you can do next year to make it even better, which leads right in to the next segment of our program…
