Voiceovers And Professionalism – The Not Silent Blog 11/15/16

A few weeks ago, an audio book publisher asked me to audition for a new book. I did and promptly forgot about it, as every good voice talent should.

The next week they told me I was one of two finalists. Always nice to hear.

A few days later I was informed I got the gig. Yay!

The next day the publisher told me that the end-client wanted me to audition again. Yes, after I booked it. The publisher felt bad about the situation and explained to the end-client this wasn’t normally done. The end-client insisted so I auditioned again.

A few days after that, the publisher informed me the end-client gave the book to another narrator.

Whooza-scuse-me-what?

The publisher felt terrible and offered to pay for my time. I told them not to worry about it.

TIP OF THE WEEK

There was clearly a lack of professionalism and consideration here. I’ve noticed over the past few years that more and more clients (and voice talents) have been, what’s the word, flaky? Nervous? Douchy?

Considering the massive amount of aspiring voice talents and startup companies out there now, it is more imperative than ever to practice professionalism in both your communication and your execution if for no other reason than you’ll stand out (sadly). Treat people online the way you treat them in person. Be considerate of other people’s time, feelings, and efforts. Be a professional!
