Hello and Happy Memorial Day! I hope everybody got their BBQ & beach on, hopefully not at the same time. Who would want sand in their burger…?
This is gonna be a quick one because it’s APAC week and I’ve got a ton of stuff to do before I head out. APAC is the Audio Publishers Association Conference which will be held tomorrow in NYC at the Jacob Javits Center.
Tonight is the pre-APAC Mixer, the conference is tomorrow all day, and the conference culminates on Thursday night with The Audies (it’s the Oscars of audio books) at the New York Historical Society. It will be swank-tastic!
BTW I named this blog “VO Worlds Are Colliding, Jerry!!!” because it’s the one time of year when my two voiceover circles overlap: I call them the Online Voiceover Community and the Analog Voiceover Community. It’s really fun to see two people who I’ve known for years meet each other for the first time and hit it off!
TIP OF THE WEEK: This is a major educational and networking event with lots o’ opportunities to improve your audio book skills and meet some great people at the same time. With that in mind, lets have a quick Networking 101 refresher, shall we?
DO bring business cards, DON’T bring CD’s.
DO focus on getting to know the people you’re talking to instead of selling yourself. DON’T cram said business cards into the hands of everyone you meet. I almost never offer mine. I only present it if asked or if I feel I can help them in some way.
DO introduce yourself to as many folks as possible in a friendly and non-intrusive manner. DON’T hound the publishers and celebrity talent.

STUFF!: I saw Star Trek Into Darkness yesterday. It was great! There were many fun homages to the original series, Kirk & Spock’s emotional arcs were well played out, and of course the special effects were off the hook!
