Hello, and Happy Faff Week! Yup, very soon, I will be on the road to North Cackalacky! I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am, so I won’t even try. Next!
So I was sitting here at my desk, trying to come up with a topic for this week’s GKN Weekly Update, when I get a Facebook notification that I was tagged in a post. My dear friend Rosi Amador posted a video by voice coach Jonathan Tilley and thanked me for helping her craft her Mission Statement. Click here to see the post & video. The thrust of the video is WHY you want to be a voice talent. Good question!
Here are the possible reasons that Jonathan listed…
To move, inspire, and motivate?
To be the voice of “insert thing here”?
To take a risk/follow a dream?
To get rich quick?
To help others?
Because you like the sound of your own voice and everyone else should get an earful?
More than one answer can be correct, you know!
So why am I a voice talent? I never thought about it, really. Once I realized the job existed, that was it. Everything else was off the table. It just felt right, you know? It suited my personality & temperament. So I guess the answer is, because I can’t imagine doing anything else!
TIP OF THE WEEK: Motivation fascinates me. Not just trying to figure out what motivates people, but what motivates myself. Why do we do what we do, say what we say? When and why are our motivations selfish, selfless, random? In an earlier blog post, I talked about why you ask questions. So now I want you to ask yourself, why are you a voice talent? Write all the reasons down. Compare them to your Mission Statement (if you have one). See if they correlate to your success or lack thereof. I’m sure your findings will be VERY interesting!
